Port-to-Plains conference deemed large success

"We have quite a few economic development officers, and not just from Medicine Hat, they're from Oyen, Hanna, Strathmore," said Medicine Hat Mayor Norm Boucher, who also hosted well over a dozen provincial MLAs and two cabinet ministers over the three-day conference.

More than 220 delegates left Medicine Hat on Thursday as the 15th annual Ports-to-Plains Trade alliance meetings wrapped up and organizers are calling the three-day gathering as one of the most successful conferences the group has held. In terms of attendance, the registration was the highest ever, and the material covered impressed delegates from rural businesses and ground-level elected officials from Texas to northern Alberta.

The benefit, say organizers, comes from the co-operative lobbying efforts by rural communities along transportation routes...
