Please be advised that the North Dakota Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is proposing a roadway improvement on US Highway 85 from approximately 4 miles west of Watford City (Mile 146.0), west and north to the junction with US Highway 2 near Williston (Mile 183.74) for a distance of approximately 37.74 miles. A project location map is below.
The project consists of the following major elements that could potentially conflict with utilities:
- Reconstructing the highway to a 4-lane undivided section with a paved median and shoulders, including extensions of box culverts and centerline culverts;
- Constructing a new bridge across the Missouri River (most likely on the west side of the existing US Highway 85 bridge);
- Acquiring an additional 30-50 feet of new ROW width on each side of the existing highway through the entire corridor.
The goal is to have any required utility relocations or adjustments completed by the end of 2013, with highway and bridge construction expected to begin in Spring 2014 and continue through several construction seasons.
