Oklahoma: Oil, gas surge boosts manufacturing in state

Oklahoma has lost thousands of manufacturing jobs over the past decade. The closing of the Oklahoma City General Motors plant brought that reality home to many of our neighbors.
But a new report says Oklahoma is at the forefront of an industrial renaissance lead by manufacturing and energy sectors. An estimated 14,000 new jobs have been created over the past year. Oklahoma is first in the nation in manufacturing job growth in the past 12 month and third in overall job growth.
The breakthroughs in shale gas exploration have pushed much of the growth. Additionally, rising foreign labor costs will likely push once-exported manufacturing jobs back to the U.S., boosting our nation’s domestic output by an estimated $20 billion to $55 billion annually…
